Karen Motyka
I am a Spiritual companion and Death Doula dedicated to empowering individuals to embrace their strength and unique talents to find their direction to solace and peace. My aim is to serve as a guiding force to help you navigate past obstacles, traumas and fears with renewed inspiration and purpose. My process is one of gently listening and guiding towards wholeness with integration of mind, body and spirit. I will be your compassionate partner and soul friend attending to your spiritual journey with sensitivity, care and tenderness.

I was born and raised in Calgary. I studied at Mount Royal University, have worked as personal trainer, fitness instructor, and Registered Massage Therapist. Though raised Catholic I am now spiritual with no religious affiliation. I am a Mother, Grand Mother, Orphan and Widow.

My personal experience with trauma and extensive loss pushed me further and deeper on my already commenced spiritual journey. I did my spiritual accompaniment work through the FCJ Christian Life Centre in Calgary. My soul journeying has been informed by mentors such as: Stephen Jenkinson with whom I apprenticed; Gabor Maté from whom I learned coping skills for early childhood trauma; and lastly, Jane Cooper from whom I learned Stanislav Grof’s Holotropic Breath Work for calming anxiety and depression and Internal Family Systems (IFS) work. An extensive list of my training and workshops is available upon request.

I open my day walking my dogs, reflecting on and appreciating the beauty of nature.  My day to day interests and pleasures revolve around leisure activities such as hiking, swimming and cycling; artistic activities like painting, gardening poem/story writing and spending time with my friends –  talking, playing, laughing. One of my favourite pastimes is spending time with people and hearing their stories. Connecting is what gives life meaning.  I have evolved into this wonderful place in life where my depths of grief and loss have shown me how to see beauty in life around me. This is my gift that life has given me to share with you.

My training in body work combined with my spiritual and abstract cognitive therapy training gives me very specialized skills to pilot you to heal and be content in all aspects of your life — spiritually, physically, and mentally. What I offer you are options, choices, and alternatives that focus on spiritual renewal. These possibilities give meaning, purpose, and transcendence to your life.

I believe that the answers lie within you and healing is possible through mind, body, and spirit. I am here for you when you are ready to take the journey.

Interbeing

 The sun has entered me.
The sun has entered me together with the cloud and the river.
I myself have entered the river, and I have entered the sun with the cloud and the river.
There has not been a moment when we do not interpenetrate.
But before the sun entered me, the sun was in me— also the cloud and the river.
Before I entered the river, I was already in it.
There has not been a moment when we have not inter-been.
Therefore you know that as long as you continue to breathe, I continue to be in you.
